Honest Breaks Into The London Book Fair

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

We waltz through the blazing gates of the London Book Fair, longing. Shake hands with the devil. Shake hands with anything living or otherwise. We find the toilet for that all important pre-meeting piss, smoke one last cigarette, puff chest out like a soon to be slaughtered cockerel.

Honest Publishing Interviews Dan Fante

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

If you’re yet to discover Dan Fante, now is the time to change that. Like his legendary father John, Dan Fante writes about America’s underdogs in hard-hitting prose that is ballsy, truthful, and bullshit-free. He’s the author of four novels – Chump Change, MoochSpitting Off Tall Buildings, and 86’d – and two poetry collections, A Gin Pissing Raw Meat Dual Carburettor V8 Son of a Bitch From Los Angeles and Kissed by a Fat Waitress. We’re big Fante fans here at Honest, so we thought we’d ask the man himself some questions. (more…)

Dictators rely on control. That control usually works through creating an environment of fear. One way of nurturing such an environment is to isolate the individual by hindering and controlling the collective thoughts of the masses; making individuals feel alone, helpless and unable to look after themselves without input of the state, wary and suspicious of those not deployed by it. Celebrating Constantin Brancusi

Saturday, February 19th, 2011
Today, Google celebrated the 135th anniversary of Constantin Brancusi’s birthday. Brancusi created dynamic sculptures inspired by Romanian folk art and imbued with spirituality. I’ve seen his work in galleries and have been taken aback by the stunning simplicity and purity of form displayed in his sculptures. I am as lost in his work as when I see beautiful natural phenomena. Lightning, swallows in flight, Brancusi.

I have acquired a new addiction. It’s a vice that has swollen my ‘to read’ pile, yet I can’t stop. I am suddenly obsessed with Black Sparrow Press books. While collecting books by author or subject makes sense, this is the first time I have collected by publisher. (more…)

Portraits of Writers

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

I’ve been interested in photographs of writers since I can remember starting to be interested in personality behind writing. There’s something about the pose a writer takes for a photograph that speaks to me. It’s a morbid fascination. I’ve selected a few photographs of writers for your viewing pleasure. (more…)
