Book Launch: 20 Sep @The Nines, Peckham

Sunday, August 28th, 2016

And now ladies and gentlemen, it’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Lllllllllet’s get ready to Buuuuuuuuuuundlllllllllllllllllllllllllle….

The Date: 20th September.

The Time: 7:30pm.

The Venue: The Nines, Peckham, South London.

The Vibe: Groovy. Baby.

It’s the Honest Publishing Bundle on the Bookshelf book launch! To be Honest, there isn’t really any bundling. But there are some books and we have no doubt whatsoever there’ll be a shelf there somewhere. Come and help us celebrate the launch of Love and Fuck Poems by Koraly Dimitriadis (“Wow. Dimitriadis pulls no punches here. This is armed-missile poetry.”) and Belly Up! by Darren Allen and William Barker (featuring the pen work of Robert Crumb and The New Yorker‘s John O’Brien – a mad, butcherous, sweet, caustic carnival of surreal beauty and salt-in-the-eye satire).

What more could you possibly ask for from a Tuesday night? (And we’ve put a packet of bourbons* behind the bar – first come, first served. And some wine. Not much though, it’s expensive…)

Kim Chul: The poet who said sorry

Tuesday, February 24th, 2015

The end of 2014 saw a deeply silly furore over Seth Rogen’s The Interview, an otherwise forgettable, ‘satirical’ account of two bumbling idiots deployed by the FBI to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The film prompted rage from Pyongyang.

The whole affair was interesting to me because it was something of a rarity. North Korea often gets cross with other nations – that isn’t rare – but it’s unusual for the North Korean elite to get involved in cultural matters beyond their own border. Indeed, far more fascinating/horrifying censorship stories have emerged from within the hermit kingdom.

Take the life of North Korean poet Kim Chul. (more…)

We’re number…one, two, three, four…well it doesn’t actually matter because it’s not in order (nine…) but being there at all is very nice indeed.

Charlie Brooker Knew

Monday, July 29th, 2013

Charlie Brooker knew.

Don’t like this post.

They look at the screen, at the boxes on the screen. Each box contains a face and each face exhibits a smile or a pout. Each face is static. There is no movement, no emotion. Some boxes have pictures of flowers, or food, or a car. These are the people who want to be their friends, but think they are not beautiful enough. Not beautiful enough to be virtually real.

Dear Jo,

Sunday, July 21st, 2013

I have a cracking new idea for you. No, you don’t need to write Harry Potter: The Wasted Years.

First off, here’s a name: Robert Galbraith. This is now your name. And here’s a small independent publisher that’s totally unrelated to Little, Brown for you: Sphere. They will publish your detective novel. I hear Sherlock is back in fashion.

I know what you’re thinking, but let me reassure you that the millions of Harry fans, and those random other millions who happen to have heard your name or seen your picture, will love the intrigue. Why did Jo hide as Rob? What could the book be about? Etc etc they’ll buy it, Jo, they’ll talk about you, and the shitty little authors out there will bite their collective purple tongue.

How are the rabbits?

Yours,

Bertie Knox
Agent Extraordinaire
